A Bangladesh passport is a travel document issued by the Government of Bangladesh ONLY to its citizens for the purpose of international travel. It must be either in the custody of the bearer or of a person duly authorized by its bearer. If lost or destroyed, the fact and circumstances must be immediately reported to the Passport Office in Bangladesh or the nearest Bangladesh Mission and to the local police authorities.Issuance of a passport can be denied on grounds of suppression of facts or submission of incorrect information. Any willful damage to passport or unauthorized changes/corrections on a passport will render it invalid.
A passport, upon request, may be issued to a Bangladeshi national on the following grounds:
- The passport has completed or is about to complete 10 years
- The pages of the passport has exhausted or is about to exhaust
- The passport has been damaged
- The passport has been lost / stolen / destroyed
Children, endorsed earlier in their mother’s passport may also apply for a separate passport.
Bangladesh Passport MRP Application Form
All Bangladeshi nationals need valid Machine-Readable Passport (MRP) to travel abroad. The Bangladesh High Commission Ottawa issues and re-issues MRP to bonafide Bangladeshi nationals following due procedure of the Government of Bangladesh.
1.1 How to Choose your Category:
Category # 1 Applicants
are those, Holding Hand written passport, or Born outside Bangladesh but entitled to obtain a Bangladesh Passport by Descent,
This category applicants have to Visit the High Commission Office in Ottawa in person for their Picture to be taken and Biometrics submission in addition to the required documents as detailed below. For Appointment call +1 (613) 236 0138 then press 0.
Category # 2 Applicants
are those having Machine Readable Computer written passport (MRP) already and want to, Get Reissue, Make Correction on their Passport or Make Alteration on their passport such as Marital status/names , emergency contact or any other information deed to be altered,
This category applicants can apply in two ways,
- In-person or
- via postal mail by just sending their application and other required supporting documents as detailed below without necessarily visiting the High Commission and submitting their biometric data.
The High Commission strongly recommends mailers to use Canada Post mail.
1.2 How to Apply, Instructions and Required Documents:

1) If you are a Category # 1 applicant,
- You have to fill and submit the duly online application form DIP Form 1 using the website http://www.passport.gov.bd and bring the print out to the High Commission, (see the note below about the form)
- You have to visit the High Commission Office in Ottawa and you are required to give biometric data in person in the High Commission Office.
- Please do not use this form for Reissue of your Passport.
2) Provide a copy of Online Birth Registration Certificate containing 17-digit Birth Registration Number (BRN) or National ID card. If you don’t have both, you may apply for your Birth Certificate in the High commission during your passport application,
3)If you are a Category # 2 applicant,
- See if you’re eligible to apply in sending your application by mail by filling the following form first. Click here
- Then fill out the form (one page application form) DIP Form 2 (Click here for Fillable PDF))
- Do not fill any online application, as online application is only for Category # 1 applicants.
- You are not necessarily required to visit the High Commission office and give biometric data unless you want to change picture on your passport or you are an applicant under 12 years old.
- Minors who were younger than 12 years old when they obtained their existing MRP, the have to visit the High commission office in Ottawa to upgrade Picture and biometrics.
4) Provide your current Original Bangladesh passport for both types of Category (for both new hand written or MRP renewal applicants).
In the case of lost passport, providing police report lodged in local police station with Case No. and reported date is mandatory. Please also include your own cover letter mentioning that you have lost your passport and reported to the police station and mentioning your case number and date in your letter as well. Your old passport will be returned back to you with the new one after the appropriate verification is done.
5) Provide a copy of your passport (page containing personal information (picture page only)),
6) Two recently taken photographs of the applicant (size: 45 mm x 35 mm or any passport size).
These photographs are not intended to update the photo on your current passport however, are only used for your paper application. If your current photo on your passport has to be changed, then you will be notified by an officer to come to the Office and have your picture taken here.
7) In Case of any Correction or Alteration on existing MRP, applicant must provide a legal supporting document.
(For instance, if some one needs to make any change in their Marital status, they need to provide copy of supporting Document of Marriage or Divorce Certificate).
In case of applicant’s failure of submit proper supporting document will delay the processing time.
8) For all types of Passport services,
- Regular Service fee CAN $150 (One hundred and Fifty Canadian Dollars only) – (To be processed in 8 weeks)*
- Express Service fee CAN $300 (Three hundred Canadian Dollars only) – (To be processed in 4 weeks)*
*Subject to arrival of the passport from Dhaka DIP.
Mode of Payment
A) The fee has to be paid by Bank Draft/Pay Order/ Postal order in favor of or payable to “Bangladesh High Commission, Ottawa”.
B) The applicant can also pay by Credit/ Debit Card in favor of Bangladesh High Commission by being present at the High Commission office in Ottawa.
C) No personal check or cash is accepted.

9) At your convenient, you can pick up your new passport from the High Commission on the time schedule suggested by the High Commission otherwise, provide an extra registered return envelope with applicant’s full and correct address well written on it.
10) Send your application by the High Commission’s Address mentioned in the Contact us page if you choose to use mail service.
The High Commission bears no responsibility for delay or failure of delivery if that mentioned address is wrong, invisible or incomplete.
Please note that the guidelines provided in this page are indicative. The High Commission reserves the right to request for any additional document at any stage for scrutiny by the Consular Officer before rendering any service.
1.3 How to Use the Forms:
Note: 1 – For All Category of Applicants
- Please DO NOT forget to sign your application and write payment details on part provided on your application.
- Name of Division will be Bangladesh High Commission, Ottawa,
- USD and CAD are the same. Delete USD and Write CAD,
- Bank/Mission is the Institution you may order a Bank Draft from, (TD Bank ,RBC, Canada Post, etc…)
- Branch is the branch name or number where the draft is prepared,
- All information to fill under payment of fee section of the form will be available on your Bank/postal Draft,
- Write your current address, e-mail and phone number on the top the application or space provided below for further communication.
Note : 2 – For Category # 1, when you fill the online form,
- Fill the form correctly with all mandatory fields(*) and click the “Save” button.
- You can put your Birth Id No. as your birth year following any fourteen number a total of seventeen digits (for example if you were born in 1992, put your numbers as 199200000000000000). As soon as you applied for BRN in our office during your Visit for passport application, we will do a data correction for your actual BRN number which will be generated later on.
- Emergency Contact should be someone from Bangladesh having Bangladesh address and phone number.
- On successful completion of first page, you will receive an e-mail containing your Application ID and Password. Please reserve your Application ID and Password carefully for future print/view/modification of your application.
- To submit your application, click “submit” button. You are not allowed to modify anything after you click “submit”. You will also receive an “Online Application Form” in pdf format. You have to report to the Passport Office for providing biometric data along with a printed version of the Online Application form.
- After submission, the system will assign you to your authorized Regional Passport Office. Your application shall remain valid for 15 days from the date of submission. Your record will be removed automatically by the system after 15 days.
1.4 How to make an Appointment, Submission and Delivery:
Submission of MRP application
- All applicants wishing to submit their applicant in person must make prior appointment with the High Commission by calling the number 613-236-0138 and press 0 on any working day between 9 AM to 5 PM.
- Applicants sending their application by mail (Category # 2 applicants ) may opt to avail a self-addressed return envelope which has a tracking number for returning their new and old passport. The High Commission bears no responsibility for delay or failure of delivery if their mentioned address is wrong or incomplete.
- Note that Category # 1 applicants can not mail their application because they have to present themselves in our office for biometrics process and for that reason, they have to bring their Online filled application form and required documents as stated above guideline in Sub Clause 1.2 to our office.
1.5 How to make a Payment and about processing times:

1.6 How to make Biometric Enrolment Process:
At the MRP enrolment booth, applicant’s Finger Prints, Electronic Signature and Photograph will be taken during the enrollment for Category # 1 applicants in the High Commission office.
After completion of the enrollment process, the High Commission electronically sends data and necessary documents to the Department of Immigration and Passport (DIP) in Dhaka. DIP then prints the new MRP after completion of necessary verification and sends it back to the High Commission by courier service. Following electronic authentication, the High Commission delivers the MRP in person or by post as desired by the applicant. The whole procedure may take approximately 30 Business days.
Delivery of the passport
After completion of the enrollment process, the High Commission gives the applicant a tentative date of delivery for the Machine-Readable Passport. The passport is printed in Dhaka and later sent to the Mission. The whole procedure may take at least 30 Business days.
1.7 How to check status of MRP issuance:
Applicants can contact the High Commission if their application has sur passed Eight weeks for Regular service or Four weeks for Express service since it has been received by the High Commission office.
During your contact, you will be prompted to provide the following information.

Your enrollment ID number will be available after we received your application and once it enrolled in our system after.

The applicant may come to the High Commission in person, along with existing Bangladesh Passport /personal identification and/or delivery slip to receive New MRP from the counter. However, before visiting the High Commission counter, the applicant is strongly advised to obtain confirmation from the High Commission about arrival of the MRP from Bangladesh.
Common delays of your application,
- Forget to sign your application with mention of place and date,
- Not providing documents listed above and supporting documents,
- All fees not be payable to “BANGLADESH HIGH COMMISSION, OTTAWA”.
- Inappropriate fees /charges or none for the service requested. Please check processing fees above.
- forget to send paid express return envelop having correct and full address.
- During filling-up the form, please type or write by hand in block-letters; illegibility may cause delay or even nullify the process.
- If you are willing to receive delivery by mail, please use the guaranteed or registered or express mail of Canada Post. Ordinary mail sometimes gets lost or causes unexpected delay. Please also enclose a self-addressed express return envelope of Canada Post. The High Commission bears no responsibility for delay or failure of delivery if that mentioned address is wrong or incomplete.
